A Tradition of Girl Scouting
Girl Scouting runs deep in my family. When my mother was a young girl, my Oma started a Girl Scout Troop when there was none available. Her troop was known for being organized, active and outdoors! She taught her troop songs in German and left impressions on many girls. When I was in elementary school, I joined as a Brownie Girl Scout at my school. The girl holding the American flag is me! Eventually, we ran into the same issue that had plagued my grandmother – there were no active troops available near me. My mom started a troop and became my leader. Our troop was very active. Even my…

Camping for Life
I have enjoyed camping for longer than I can remember. My family enjoyed camping, and prioritized spending time with each other. Often, the trips included grandparents, aunts and uncles and/or friends. In the beginning, we camped in a tent. That first photo is my daddy and me. I was teeny weeny. The second one shows me a little older, but in front of the same tent. Eventually, my family got a pop-up camper. Also, my sister joined the fun! The pop up camper was neat. My parents eventually hung a curtain down the middle rod over our bed so that we would leave each other alone. Some time after that,…

Preschool Homeschooling the Alphabet
Twelve years ago, I was just beginning my homeschooling journey with my first two kiddos. At the time, my son was 4 and my daughter was 2. My husband and myself attended public schools. Homeschooling was a new experience for us, and it was a lot of work, but I’m so glad that we chose that path. Below are links to the whole series of posts, hosted on my other site, www.mommamelanie.com. The posts have been mostly updated to make sure they have working YouTube links and photos. It was a joy to go through them again and remember the fun that we had. I hope you enjoy them too!…

Who Can Resist a Puppy?
I’ve posted about our journey with pets and our first time fostering in other posts. We have always been animal lovers and enjoy helping them. After our first Foster experience and “Foster Fail”, we knew we wanted to foster again in memory of Max. Lucky for us, two days after returning our first fosters, the shelter had two puppies they needed out of the shelter ASAP. These would be the fourth and fifth fosters. Enter Gus Gus and Jaq. These two were the smallest puppies in a litter of five and they were 5 weeks old. They smelled worse than any dogs we had ever been around. Their fur was…

When Loss Leads to Love
In my previous post, How Our Pet Journey Began, I wrote about Max. Max was a phenomenal dog and a beloved family member. When we said goodbye to him when Cancer took his quality of life away, we were devastated. When someone you love is gone, there is an emptiness around. The empty kennel, dog bed, or spot by your feet at night. Even his anxiety left a void. The house was quieter. Every time we say goodbye to a pet, we are astonished at the quiet that remains. Quite frankly, it would be enjoyable, if we weren’t so used to the noise. Max loved everyone. He loved every dog…
