Whirlwind

I haven’t been on much, if at all, this week.  I suspect that the little man is teething again, and our nights have been interesting.  For that matter, our days have been interesting. I could go on and on about the “joys” of teething, but the highlights of my week have been far from unpleasant.  My little dude is growing so fast.  I cut his hair while he was sleeping – you see, he is far too active for me to attempt it while he’s awake – and seeing his little ears and no longer seeing those longer hairs on the back of his neck that were beginning to curl… well, it really struck me.  Today, my son is 11 months old.  He is walking more and more every day, and he is babbling nonstop.  As I am writing this, he is standing on my craft storage boxes in front of the window in the garage.  He’s got a tshirt and blue jeans on, barefuoot with a camo baseball cap.  All I can see from my chair is toes wiggling over the edge and occasionally he leans around the corner and I see a sweet grin.  He’s giggling, teasing the dogs from his perch and enjoying his view.

It seems as if he never stops moving, always going somewhere for a purpose, and sleep is the farthest thing from his mind.  In fact, he fights sleep with more determination than I’ve ever seen in a child.  Throughout this week, he’s climbed a stepladder, the couch, onto the dinette, up me and to the top of the changing table, up and down the stairs, and gone swimming.  He goes for walks with us, hand in hand, and has been caught walking clear across the room with no assistance a few times.  Today he even walked around something, no hands, which is a huge step.  The little dude is hooked on french fries, apples and froot loops and cheerios.  He loves drinking anything from a straw and very much enjoys being allowed to play with an empty soda can and pretending to drink from it.

Last night, during on of our challenging wakeups, I held the little dude to my chest and we snuggled.  It was heavenly.  His cheek to my chest, breathing deeply and sleeping sweetly.  What a treasure.  As I continue typing, I’m watching him crawl around, playing with his toys, my camera, the dog leashes, making everything into a new adventure and enjoying himself so thoroughly.  As if I hadn’t said it before, I LOVE being his mother!  I love my son!
