Resting and Rejuvenating

My little munchkin has never been easy to put to bed. I remember many an evening of singing at the top of my lungs to try to have him hear me over his screaming. He nurses and snuggles and relaxes until he realizes he’s falling asleep and then he starts to fight it, with all of his might. The poor little dude, he starts trying to escape, as though he’s being forced against his will and just knows that everyone is going to do everything fun without him. Some nights are better than others. I can’t say I blame him. I’m not a good sleeper myself.

Tonite, though, was especially unusual. I nursed him down, he ended up sprawled, one leg by me, one leg spread as far the other direction as he could stretch it, a hand on his diaper and another holding my side, and finally a neck stretched so far back you’d be suprised to hear he was still breathing. I thought that these were signs he was ready to be put down, so I took him to the crib. I laid him down and his eyes opened. Arms didn’t move, legs didn’t move, he just opened his eyes. I patted his chest and an occasional finger twitch was all the movement, other than his eyes. He laid there, staring at me, not a muscle in his face moved, not an expression of anything other than sleep. I was so sure he’d start crying. At one point he was staring at me as I laid his blanket across him. No response at all. Little by little, the eyes shut, his head rolled and he’s been out since. Poor little angel must have been exhausted.

I was watching him nap earlier and all I can say is, Gosh, I love that boy! I am truly blessed to be his momma! And as I prepare to sign off and get some rest myself, I hear him stirring in his crib. I pray he and I get some quality sleep tonite. That little munchkin wears me out! Goodnight all!
