So Many Seats!
We had an awesome baby bath when my little girl was very very little. It was small enough to fit on our master bath’s counter and large enough for her to grow with. Eventually, I would have it beside her brother’s bath and I could tend to them both. It served us well. The stepstool is still in use in our house and the bath awaits the chance of another new addition. Stop right there… NOT YET! Okay, read on… The challenge was that when she began sitting up, she would slide down in her chair/recliner. She wasn’t stable enough to sit in a slippery bathtub without assistance and even if she…

Only if You Close Your Eyes
I was laying in my bed, a few nights ago, highly alert. I am the family watchdog, you see. Hubby is a heavy sleeper and although we do have two pups who’d likely warn me if a stray ant came in, it is the happenings of our little ones that I’m am so focused on. As I lay in bed, I hear the breathing of hubby, the pups, my son… all in bed with or near me. I hear the air purifier, the air conditioning, the gentle rhythm of the ceiling fan, the ocassional click of the icemaker downstairs or a pup kicking out their legs. I listen for a…

Child of Mine
Early this morning I was awakened by my little angel. He was crying, but not for milk or for a clean diaper. He was crying for attention. My husband brought him to me, and after a feeding, the little dude seemed to be determined to crawl around, play with us and the dogs and get his day going. None of us, however, were ready for the day to begin. Eventually, he started throwing his weight around, literally, and face-planting into pillows and cuddling up against us. At one point, he dozed off snuggled against my husband’s back. At another point, he ended up sharing my pillow, his cheek to mine…

In Awe
I understand that God made all things. At least I think I do. I understand that they are all complex, all part of his plans, all wonderful. But can I ever grasp HOW complex? HOW much they intertwine in his plan? or HOW wonderful? I don’t think so. Last night was a rough night. After sitting on the floor indian-style (no offense intended, that’s what they called it in school) and battling with my son to get him washed up and changed and nails cut and pajamas on and ready for bed, I stood up and my back gave out. It was excruciating. I’d even go so far as to…

Sniffle, Sniffle
Something that I have always struggled with, regarding my little man, is colds. Or rather, sniffly noses. Or rather, a sniffly nose. To clarify, we aren’t talking about my nose… but about my son’s. The poor dude apparently has some allergies and gets congested rather frequently. He also catches colds rather regularly, or at least it feels that way to me. He was finally over a major cold before we left to come to the east coast for a visit. He seemed like he was feeling fantastic and his poor little nose began running yesterday. By midway through the night, he was struggling to breathe without sniffling and coughing. Nothing…

Time to Learn, Grow, Change & Stand Firm
Have you ever noticed that sometimes, when you have gotten out of a relationship or a situation and had some time to think or breathe, you start to notice things that you didn’t notice before? Sometimes you realize that things were better than you had originally thought. Sometimes you look back and realize that things were worse than you thought. Sometimes you think about how you had handled it and realize that maybe you could have handled it differently, or should have. Perspective is funny. When things are happening to us, we tend to let our emotions tint our view. For instance, when someone hurts our feelings, everything that follows…

Fond Memories
This morning was the first morning in a while that I woke up in my parent’s house. They did a wonderful job preparing for us. My folks had a brand new bed ready in the guest room, the port-a-crib set up, a television/dvd player ready for our baby movies, a rocking recliner (like I have at home) ready for trying to get the munchkin down and a lullaby cd in the cd player. Despite all efforts, my teething dude and I did not get much sleep. Just part of growing up, I suppose. We had a nice breakfast with my mom and made it to church in time for the…

Traveling Together
As I am typing, I am sitting up on a brand new memory foam mattress in the dark, listening to my son breathing deeply and cars driving down the neighborhood roads. I have a dull reminder of a horrid headache that I had earlier, but am, myself, very comfortable. I am home, in my other home. The home I was brought home from the hospital to. The home with my Mom and my Dad. And I am there with my son, the first grandchild, my first miracle. It feels great. Earlier this evening, I was able to sit in my parents’ living room and watch my son lead my mother…

The Little Man of the House
My little munchkin is growing, so fast! He is sitting on the floor, playing with his camera, wearing his 24 month pajamas. Yep, I said 24 month. The legs are long, but fitted with tight bottoms and are designed for a thin 2 year old (I think) and so he fits the bill. In this photo, you can see the top. You can also see his mohawk, which is growing into a very comical widow’s peak. What a little man I have. In addition to his “Momma” and “Poppa” words, he has also created a name for his grandfather, my husband’s dad. He calls him something that sounds like “Pva-Pva”,…
