Sniffle, Sniffle
Something that I have always struggled with, regarding my little man, is colds. Or rather, sniffly noses. Or rather, a sniffly nose. To clarify, we aren’t talking about my nose… but about my son’s. The poor dude apparently has some allergies and gets congested rather frequently. He also catches colds rather regularly, or at least it feels that way to me. He was finally over a major cold before we left to come to the east coast for a visit. He seemed like he was feeling fantastic and his poor little nose began running yesterday. By midway through the night, he was struggling to breathe without sniffling and coughing. Nothing serious, or alarming, but certainly unfortunate and uncomfortable. Today, it came and went, but he still sounds like he’s getting sick.
What does one do when their refundable,non-transferable tickets are in jeopardy? I can not, and will not fly with a sick baby. Besides being a bother to other patrons, and potentially risking the health of a stranger, I also risk that my child could easily get a secondary infection, or worse, that he might have problems with his ears and burst his ear drums. So now, we wait. Meanwhile, I bathe him more thoroughly, I suction out his nose regularly and I pray. Part of me wishes we could stay longer, but I know it’ll be time to go home; after all, dude has a Poppa, and I do have a husband. No matter what I wish, however, I would never wish that the little dude be ill.
Our trip has continued to be fun. I had an interesting shopping experience today. I went to Best Buy to purchase a cord to connect my computer to my parent’s television. My theory was that I could use my netflix account and my child could still watch his VeggieTales and we could watch movies while I’m here. All said and done, I ended up with three separate cords, a near $70 bill, and come to find out that the connection wouldn’t have worked anyway. Before I learned that, I had time to think on the drive home. For $30 more, I could probably find them a wii on craigslist and use that for netflix. Long story short, I did that… and I plan on returning the cords tommorow. Oh, no, I didn’t buy it for them, apparently they were interested before, this was just a push. My intent was to make movie night tonite more simple, but we had to make a few trips to get all of the parts from the seller and we had LOTS of company!
The little man got to see his great grandparents, great aunt and uncle, 2nd cousins (5 at once), another great aunt, his grandparents and me all in one evening. And boy, did that little dude keep up. He just played and played and played. He bonded with one of my male cousins and seemed mesmerized by his deep voice. He let the younger cousins carry him all over the house, and he ate at the dinner table with the rest of us. I believe we fit 14 folks at the table tonite. What a joy! We got to pray, eat, and visit together.
Earlier in the day, the little munchkin discovered how much fun it is to help his Omi clean. She had a mop out and he had never seen one. He initially followed her around the kitchen, chasing the mop, reaching for it. Then he got to help! The photo below is part of that fun. What a team they were. And they did a great job.
As I’ve said all along, I’m loving the company, I’m loving the space, I’m loving the place and the fact that my son is absolutely thriving. I have a social little dude on my hands and I have to remember that when I get home. We just have to get more active. Now, I’m going to go get some rest. Tomorrow is my last day of visits from my grandparents, I might go to the zoo, and I believe we’re planning on a sushi dinner! Hooray! Hope you are having a wonderful day too! Goodnight!
