Preschool Homeschool : The Letter U

We opted to homeschool instead of enrolling our son in standard Pre-K.  I am sharing with you some of the activities we did to learn about the letter U.  Whether you homeschool or not, these are short and sweet ways to reinforce letter learning.

Walphabet’s ABCs Song :  We always start with an ABC song.  It is something that they can get excited about, since they generally know the tune, and that everyone can enjoy.

We used  Lego Duplo Alphabet Mats from 123Homeschool4Me.com.  Both kids love it! My son is a VERY tactile learner, and these activities just ROCK!

Sesame Street’s My Friend’s Ukelele

 Highlight-a-Letter by Babbling Abby.  I use these for my oldest (4), while my youngest (2), colors on her own.  She got Unicorn (Animal Mechanicals) today.

We did the U is for Umbrella craft, inspired by How to Run a Home Daycare.  This activity was another great reminder, to me, of how different my munchkins are.  My son quickly decided to put his umbrella top right across the top of the letter U.  He also chose ONE raindrop to show that it was raining.  My daughter enjoyed using her allotted raindrops AND her brother’s leftovers.  It really is great, seeing both of my munchkins blossom and grow more confident in their own creativity and uniqueness.  These crafts don’t have to end up looking like the original examples.

Starfall’s Letter U Activity : These great, flash, interactive activities are a wonderful and FREE resource, as well!  The kids really enjoy them!  The whole set is available in the Google Play store for Android,  Amazon App Store or iTunes!

Finally, we hung the Letter U (in big and little form) on our wall, to join A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N,O, P, Q, R, S & T.
