So Many Seats!

We had an awesome baby bath when my little girl was very very little.  It was small enough to fit on our master  bath’s counter and large enough for her to grow with.  Eventually, I would have it beside her brother’s bath and I could tend to them both.  It served us well.  The stepstool is still in use in our house and the bath awaits the chance of another new addition.  Stop right there… NOT YET!  Okay, read on…

The challenge was that when she began sitting up, she would slide down in her chair/recliner.  She wasn’t stable enough to sit in a slippery bathtub without assistance and even if she was, I wanted to be able to do shared bath time for a while.

So… I ended up buying a used Dreambaby Bath Seat.  I got a cute pink one.  Super product.  In the event that you end up shopping around and consider one of these… let me give you a heads up.  Our bathtub is SLICK.  Even still, the suction cups loosened every so often as the tub filled and I would find myself fighting against a floating chair trying to get my daughter in.  I NEVER leave the bathside, so that wasn’t a huge issue.  Once she was in, she stayed down just fine.  Now that she is bigger, it is no longer an issue, for many reasons.  Also, I realized that the instructions said not to have the water in the tub above the water line on the chair.  I couldn’t find this line to save my life.  Until I did find it… a few inches from the bottom… I couldn’t fathom how this would be considered a bath… We fill the tub to just under the tray/safety bar thing.  Maybe my floating issues were because of this.  Either way, I stay by her and I don’t intend to blame the company if my parenting skills are at fault.  😉

Anyway, this bath chair served us well, too!  On a few occasions, I gave the little cutie a chance to be out and about in the bath on her own.  She FREAKED!  Completely broke down and panicked.  So… she was in the chair for every bath since her baby bath until yesterday!!

You see, yesterday, we bought a net and fishes set for the kiddie pool outside.  And since we didn’t have time to test it out outside, the kids got to test it out in the bath.  And since something new was in the bathtub, and her brother had easy access to it and she didn’t, she began to climb out of her chair.  She was unsuccessful in her attempts, but came really close.  Close enough for me to help her.  And then she sat, on the bottom of the bathtub, using her reluctant brother as an armrest.  She had no desire to get back into the chair.  In fact, she insisted that I take it out.  Bath time was a little scary, for me, from that point on.  She would get excited and slip and almost go down, so my hand was close to touching her the entire remainder of the bath.  But she loved it.  And brother was very patient.  I think our bath chair days just ended.

The other chair… our Chicco Polly Highchair, was a great addition, but didn’t serve us nearly as long.  The chair seems to be very comfortable for our little one, the  tray is huge and the seat is super adjustable.  However, the tray doesn’t fit in our dishwasher, our daughter manages to somehow end up with food under the pad all the time and, well, it’s kind of huge.

The reason it’s going, though, has nothing to do with the chair.  In fact, it’s going simply because our daughter is a copycat and she became determined to eat at the table in… drumroll please… brother’s booster seat…

Yesterday, I finally picked her up her own.  Brother has the Safety 1st Easy Care Booster, which he’s been using for, well… years.  He no longer uses the buckles, the tray, or the seatback, but the seat is still strapped to a dining chair and it is perfectly sized for him.  Apparently, it is also perfectly sized for her.  Whenever she had the opportunity, she wanted to sit in it and snack at the table.

I ended up buying the little princess a deluxe version of brother’s chair.  The seat back looked more comfortable and it had more adjustable features.  It was a $5 price difference and so far we are thrilled.  She is eating much more and is content to sit at the table and allow me to eat as well.  It’s been a long time comin’!

Sometimes it is amazing to me how many different seats they sit in.  Infant car seats,  (My husband teases me because my son has had 4, maybe more, different car seats in my search for a good fit.)  Toddler seats, high chairs, boosters, swings, bouncers, baby baths, bath chairs, oh my!  But… like Goldilocks, when the conditions are right, the little one is happy!
