No Explanation Neccessary
On March 27th, hubby and I went to the doctor for our final ultrasound. I had hubby come in case my “I am truly prepared – I can handle anything” attitude flew out the door. That and in case I got a case of the dizzys – this flu was still kicking my butt. The doctor kindly asked “You aren’t going to lose it if we don’t find anything, are you?”. He didn’t expect any good news and neither did we. I assured him I’d be fine. I told him I’d probably be quite quiet, but most likely could handle it.
He did his thing, pulled up the image on the screen and says “Oh My! Do you see it?”. For a gal who is expecting either nothing or the same thing as last week, I was speechless. I couldn’t see anything. I could, but I didn’t know what I was looking at. The look on hubby’s face about gave it away. There was a heartbeat. And above and beyond that – an embryo. The doctor was shocked. He announced to his assistant that they’d have to do a full ultrasound after all. He measured the little guy/gal and tracked his/her heartbeat for us. He explained that once a healthy embryo with a strong heartbeat is found, the chance of miscarriage goes down a great deal. He was fairly confident we’d have a healthy baby, though not until November 18th or so.
We went to see our OB to discuss the findings with her and she looked about as surprised as us. She was thrilled to be able to discuss good news with us, and seemed like the good news had truly made her day. I was told to take my prenatals as I had been and come back in a week or so for a full visit.
We’re gonna be parents after all.
Neither of the docs had an explanation. Everyone had the same look of disbelief. We know that enough people prayed about this pregnancy and my being a mom that God made it happen. Apparently he thinks I’m ready. I guess I better join the bandwagon- I’m in for the roughest part of the ride.
