Literally, a blur…
I am sitting in my bed, with our newest arrival asleep in her cosleeper beside me and our little monkey watching Star Trek with my hubby in the loft. The screen occasionally blurs over, from my eyes clouding – a frequent occurrence when one wears contacts and gets little rest. Our little angel has been with us for two weeks now, and our home has been buzzing with excitement and sinus issues. Yes, you read that correctly… in our little one’s first weeks, our entire family has come down with tummy issues and a wicked cold. Our monkey is awfully sick, now on amoxicillan and cough suppressant, and we are praying he feels better quickly. Hubby and I are finally recovering from our parts and the little lady hasn’t been effected, with exception of a stuffy nose. As a result, nights (and days, for that matter) have been more challenging than we expected. Thankfully, my folks are in town for a week and have been SUPER helpful, and things seem to be settling down.
As for the arrival of the little lady – we opted to be induced and the induction went without any surprises. I got my epidural (which I didn’t have the first time around) and I will never attempt another delivery without it again, if I can help it. It was wonderful! When the time came to push, the epidural didn’t seem to help much at all, but two pushes and the little lady was here! Doc called it one, but I did the pushing… She was 7 lbs, 8 oz according to the records and in just two weeks has exceeded her birth weight. She gained 14 oz in 6 days and is eating very well. I convinced the doctors to allow me to leave the hospital 24 hours earlier than normal and she settled into being at home very well.
She’s a beautiful little thing and incredibly mellow. Where my son required tight swaddling and constant movement or music to be calm, she enjoys her meals and spends most of her time completely relaxed, watching the world or sleeping soundly. It takes a LOT to wake her up from her dreams and she isn’t easily startled. She also isn’t a crier. She has a voice, I’ve heard it a few times, but it doesn’t happen often. I’m healing well. Compared to how I felt after the first delivery, I feel super skinny this time around. I’m feeling strong and am happy to say that I’m getting used to the changes in our routine. (My daddy making me bagels and cocoa in the morning, and my mom helping with sick kiddo and cleaning up around me is certainly helping!) I’m enjoying being momma to two, though it would be lovely if our family were healthy again!
As I expected, my time here is cut short… duty calls! I’ll update more later.
