The heat is fading, and it’s time to plant!!
When we lived in Alaska, we anticipated snow on the ground (snow that would stay) by Halloween. My friends are already mentioning frosts and cleaning out their gardens. Meanwhile, here in Texas, we’re finally getting out of the 90s and, by golly, I’m ready to garden! Despite our family being sick, I’ve tried to get out in the yard every day or every other day and weed and prep beds. A lot of what we did in the spring stuck around, while some didn’t. The summer crops are over and it’s time to plant for the fall. I love that we can plant year-round. So exciting!
I started a few seedlings in the house the other day… Summer Squash, Celery, Broccoli, Kale, Sugar Snow Peas & Spinach.
And then some more this evening! Hollyhocks, Purple Coneflowers, Sweet Peas, Chamomile, Lavender, Dill, Cucumbers, Shell Peas, Bush Snap Peas, Simpson Lettuce, Nevada Lettuce,
Still left to plant are Chives, Beets, Carrots, Kohlrabi, Radishes, Gallardias & Columbines.
I already have some starts, and I think I started planting midweek (I really need to get better at documenting this stuff.)
So, our counters are a part of our garden for a few weeks.
This is the time of the year (or one of them, anyway) that makes me grateful for an abundance of space in my kitchen.
This is just one of the ways we are working towards fixing our financial bad habits and becoming a more frugal family. I’ll try to get to posting about the yard soon. It’s not looking too bad.
