Flashback : Laundry Room Makeover

I am blessed to have a laundry room.  It’s even cooler that it is upstairs, so I don’t have to lug laundry up and down constantly.  But… it is in the middle of upstairs.  No windows, no sunlight… around a corner and through a door and tada… Blah.

Short of painting it hot pink and adding a disco ball, I wasn’t sure how to liven it up.  But I  did manage to do it… and no paint or tacky decoration involved.  Well, I don’t think it’s tacky anyway.

First off… the door.  The decal was under $5 on Amazon.   I am TOTALLY happy with it.  The application was a piece of cake and it gets smiles every time someone sees it.  Not often, unless you count ME!

The artwork was done by a girl in Alaska who was battling an aggressive cancer and did an art show to raise funds for her treatment.  Unfortunately, as I searched today to find links to share her information with you, I learned that she passed away in 2010.   Her name was Kim Myers.

PORTIS Drying Rack

The drying rack is from IKEA.  I did lots of looking for a drying rack, I even attempted making one myself.  I’m not good at spraypaint… let’s leave it at that.  When I saw this one at IKEA, I knew it was perfect.

I used a stud-finder to locate the studs on the wall, as I anticipated that I would be hanging hangers on it with damp sweaters and such, and I didn’t want to tear the whole thing down, drywall and all.  Once I figured out where the studs were, I lined up the rack (it was perfectly sized, thank goodness!) and I mounted it right into the studs.  Whoohoo!!!  That was exhilarating   Oh… I forgot that the actual assembly of this beauty took far more work than the mounting.  Good old Ikea.

Lastly, I purchased some clearance vinyl wall decals of flowers and put them on the wall that I see as I walk in, and on the upper wall behind my washer and dryer.  The next laundry room project I would like to see happen??  A Pedestal for the washer and dryer…
