There’s Something Fishy about That Boy!
We’re all getting over a nasty cold in our house, so we’ve been doing a lot of freezer runs for popsicles. Today, when my son went searching for a popsicle, I jokingly asked if he wanted a “fish popsicle.” My husband had dried anchovies in the freezer for some Korean recipes that he has been trying lately. When he was a child, he and a friend used to eat them like chips. {If you could see my face right now…}
Anyway, my son said, “YES!” What?!?!? He was totally serious. We gave him one, expecting an “eww” and things didn’t go as expected… at all. My son asked for more. A bowl, in fact! And… he ate them. All of them.
He wanted to share. My daughter tried one. My husband had a few. The best part (NOT) was my son talking about how he was eating their faces and their heads, or their tails, or their bodies. He bit off a head and brought it to me because it is the “best” part. OMG!!! My husband was proud. I was trying not to show my complete horror. Okay, it might not have been horror, but seriously, I’d pay NOT to try one. I know, ridiculous… they (the kid and his father…) even went so far as to ask me what Daniel Tiger would do. C’mon… that’s not playing fair at all.
Long story short, I didn’t eat one. And I’m totally okay with that. And, I’m really proud of my son for bringing me a pretzel as an alternative. Go Son!
What kinds of unique (I almost typed crazy, but I have to be fair… it’s just not MY thing) things do your kids eat? I imagine my household is mostly normal… excluding that my son likes raw spinach and, apparently, frozen dried anchovies. Eeeeeek!!!
