My Baby Favorites
Choosing the “right” gear for your family can be frustrating, and expensive! Originally posted in June of 2013, I’ve made some updates to this one! The Ergo Baby Carrier I’ve had a few folks, expecting children or grandchildren, ask me to share my favorite products. It’s a fun subject for me. We’ve certainly made our share of impulse purchases and we’ve tried a LOT of stuff! This is, by far and away, my favorite baby item! I say this because I used it for both of my children, even carrying them both tandem (one in the Ergo and one in another carrier), because it has been just about everywhere, it…

Purple Shamrock : Oxallis triangularis
Original Post : June 2013 I am definitely a fan of purple. I tend to head straight toward the blues and purples in any nursery and the back part of my garden surely showed it for some time. This plant was fascinating to me when we first saw it. The purple leaves were beautiful, and the tiny light purple / white flowers were so cute! I was tickled to see that when the temperature changed or it rained, the leaves fell into little teepees. At one point, I was certain that they were dying off and I actually weeded them mostly out because they were failing so badly. But the photo above…

Hold Me Close
For a couple who has learned to appreciate having a king sized bed for two folks and two pups, we sort of suprised ourselves by opting to cosleep with our son. Initially, it was because we lived in a camper and having him in our room otherwise was not possible. Then, it was because the only way to get him to stay asleep was to be near him. Eventually, we were excited that he could sleep in his own room when we bought a house. I slept poorly having the gentle sounds of his breathing replaced by the obnoxious buzz and light of a baby monitor. He slept poorly, not…

What a Great Day!
I just had one of those days that just felt different. I felt so much more relaxed than I had in a long time, I made a point to spend more time on the floor with the kids and trying to enjoy that I have them. I had to rescue Baby Girl from an overly generous big brother who brought, and attempted to feed, her Cheerios while she laid on her back and I used the bathroom (She was totally fine, and we didn’t even come that close to an emergency…). We played puzzles, Baby Girl had tummy time, we cuddled. Big Brother colored and cut paper while I sewed…

Only if You Close Your Eyes
I was laying in my bed, a few nights ago, highly alert. I am the family watchdog, you see. Hubby is a heavy sleeper and although we do have two pups who’d likely warn me if a stray ant came in, it is the happenings of our little ones that I’m am so focused on. As I lay in bed, I hear the breathing of hubby, the pups, my son… all in bed with or near me. I hear the air purifier, the air conditioning, the gentle rhythm of the ceiling fan, the ocassional click of the icemaker downstairs or a pup kicking out their legs. I listen for a…

Hickory Dickory Dock, It’s Almost 3 o-Clock
I fell asleep last night, while pondering many things. It is one of my blessings/shortcomings/whatever. I often think through and can solve problems. I am equally capable of obsessing over minute things and losing sleep. Last night, my thoughts made me laugh. I thought about how I really should blog about how my mind works. How I drift from one thought straight into the next. I thought how my main problem would be that, even with the most efficient keyboard, my mind travels much faster than my fingers, or even my tongue. Ever since I learned to type, I daydreamed of being able to journal with my eyes closed just…

Literally, a blur…
I am sitting in my bed, with our newest arrival asleep in her cosleeper beside me and our little monkey watching Star Trek with my hubby in the loft. The screen occasionally blurs over, from my eyes clouding – a frequent occurrence when one wears contacts and gets little rest. Our little angel has been with us for two weeks now, and our home has been buzzing with excitement and sinus issues. Yes, you read that correctly… in our little one’s first weeks, our entire family has come down with tummy issues and a wicked cold. Our monkey is awfully sick, now on amoxicillan and cough suppressant, and we are…

Time for Training?
Ambitious as I am, I’m not talking about potty training. What I am talking about is baby training. Until this point, I haven’t been much for “training” my little man. My approach has been to just respond to his needs as he has them and it has worked for the most part since I’m home full time for him. The only issue that has become an issue for the entire family is SLEEP! Or rather, the lack thereof. I’ve tried making sure he has a full belly, making sure he’s been active enough, “wearing him down” in the baby carrier, reading books, bath time, singing, swaddling, patting, bouncing… Full belly,…

Child of Mine
Early this morning I was awakened by my little angel. He was crying, but not for milk or for a clean diaper. He was crying for attention. My husband brought him to me, and after a feeding, the little dude seemed to be determined to crawl around, play with us and the dogs and get his day going. None of us, however, were ready for the day to begin. Eventually, he started throwing his weight around, literally, and face-planting into pillows and cuddling up against us. At one point, he dozed off snuggled against my husband’s back. At another point, he ended up sharing my pillow, his cheek to mine…
